Carr Mansion: A modern take on a historic gem
Carr Mansion is a carefully restored 19th century Greek Revival mansion. You’ll find all the character and history of this bed and breakfast mixed with a modern design and elegance.
About the Design
Austin-based interior designer Shannon Eddings was brought in to create a marriage between old and new for Carr Mansion. “I intentionally kept a bit of a nautical theme throughout [the resort] since Galveston is historically the biggest seaport town in Texas,” Shannon says. “The history is what drew me to the city at first.” She collected pieces towards her provincial theme for a year while the structure was undergoing major restorations. From gorgeous antique furniture and rugs to brass decor to an impressive collage of coastal paintings in the 2nd floor hallway, each piece has been perfectly curated and displayed amidst the design. Shannon also took great care with the lighting throughout the house, saying “The modern light fixtures juxtaposed against the original ceiling medallions shows the beauty of the two eras meeting.” Each room has a special, impeccably tailored theme, all while conveying itself to the overall grand feel of the space, transforming guests to a luxurious experience full of history.
